When it gets warm out, I frequently walk or run around the neighborhood. I often saw him on the street walking in and out of town and we'd exchange pleasantries and catch up on what we're up to. Sometimes we would walk together. Usually, he was going into town for bread, milk or the morning paper. Mike was a military man and was a blue collar worker all his life. He is about 96 years old now and took walks three times a day.
A few years ago, he won $1,000,000 from of a scratch-off he bought from the bodega down on the corner. I was wondering why there was so much updating on his house a couple of years ago.
Last summer, I saw his wife on the porch and she informed me that Mike injured himself but also, Alzheimers seemed to have quickly overtaken him. Mike is currently in a home receiving care and will likely never return home.
Coming back from my walk, I took this photo of him in front of his house as he was leaving to go for his evening walk.
